Dr. Mercedes Ebanks

Howard University School of Education Associate Professor and Director of School and University Partnerships

Mercedes E. Ebanks, PhD is a graduate of Georgetown University and Howard University with degrees in Psychology.

Dr. Ebanks serves as Associate Professor in the Human Development and Psychoeducational Department in the School of Education at Howard University. She is on faculty with the doctoral program in Counseling Psychology where she prepares graduate students to provide mental health services with a lens of cultural awareness and sound ethical practice. In addition, Dr. Ebanks serves as the Director of School and University Partnerships under the leadership of the Dean of the School of Education. She collaborates with school districts, organizations, and communities to provide learning opportunities for students and engages the faculty to offer professional development in their area of their expertise.

Dr. Ebanks has an extensive background in education and mental health services and has served as a crisis counselor and administrator. Dr. Ebanks has worked with public, private, and alternative schools in addition to serving several years with social service organizations in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. She served on boards and committees of nonprofit organizations and local/national professional organizations. Her research interests include co-parenting and identifying the problems and solution for parental conflict with separated and divorce parents, overrepresentation of minority children in special education, counselor education preparation, and multicultural treatments to behavior disorders, and of most recent the emotional well-being of black entrepreneurship and the challenges of impostor syndrome within minority business owners and leaders.

Dr. Ebanks is the co-founder and Chief Financial Officer of The MECCA Group (Mental health Education Careers Consulting Assessments) a psychological service agency in DC. She is a bilingual behavior therapist and evaluator that specializes in parental engagement. Dr. Ebanks provides interventions, assessments, and strategies to improve child well-being and strengthen parental relationships and enhances communication.
